British Science Week – Paper Aeroplanes

The theme for this year’s British Science Week was journeys. We had fun investigating which paper aeroplanes would fly the furthest. We thought about different forces and found out that if the paper plane had enough thrust, (a pushing force), and the wings are properly designed so the air can get under them easily to give the plane ‘lift’, then it would have a longer flight. The planes slowed down because air pushed against the plane, creating ‘drag’. We also found out that the weight of a plane affected how quickly it fell because gravity pulled heavier planes down to the ground more quickly. We had great fun trying out different shapes. 11th March 2019.
