On Wednesday 10th July our school took part in an American Football competition at Cardinal Wiseman. Children from Year 5 and 6 were given a team from the NFL – we were the Cleveland Browns for the day. This was the first time we had competed at American Football, our children had to learn and adapt during each match.
We started strong and managed to score our first touchdown and then another, winning our first ever game of Tag American Football. The winning run did not stop there: Ernesford “Cleveland Browns” Grange went on to achieve 4 wins from 4 games and qualified for the semi finals!
A combination of fast offence and very strong defence helped make the perfect start for the semi final and the winning run continued. An excellent achievement reaching the final at the first attempt.
The final was end to end with Ernesford taking the lead, but we could not convert the bonus play. We then conceded but on the bonus 2 point play, Jordan sprung out of nowhere and intercepted the ball and with 1 trainer on, scored a bonus 2 points. Touch downs were shared between the 2 teams with the lead changing hands. With a couple of minutes left on the clock, the reliable QB of Mikolaj and his attacking team came up with the perfect play to take the lead. The defence held strong and Ernesford “Cleveland Browns” Grange were the champions!
A special mention to the MVP for her fantastic defensive plays went to Shaiya!
