Dol-y-Moch: Friday (Day 3)

Our last full day at Dol-y-Moch was started with the usual activities: morning jobs, breakfast, briefing and making our lunch for the day.

Mountain and Mine – Groups A

Our instructors, Gwydion and Garn, took us to explore a mine called Ruskin. Then to a nearby hill for some rock scrambling.

Mountain and Mine – Group B

Our instructors, Jonny and Tom, to us to explore Rhiwbach Mine. Inside, we did some climbing, rope walk, and some rowing. We then hiked up a nearby mountain.

Water / Rock – Group C

Ryan, our instructor for today, took us to a nearby gorge called Teigl where we worked as a team to do some scrambling up rocks and waterfalls. We later went to Borth-y-Gest, a beach close to Porthmadog, where we had a picnic and did some more rock scrambling.

Mountain and Mine – Group D

Our instructor, Elouise, took us to explore Rhiwbach Mine. Inside, we did some climbing, rope walk and some rowing. We then hiked up the east side of a nearby mountain. We found out what it’s like to be in absolute darkness!

Water and Rock – Group E

This morning, Martin our instructor, took us on-site to do some kayaking. We played a range of individual and team games which really helped us become confident kayakers! After lunch, we took a short trip to a Teigl gorge where we faced several challenges! Our teamwork and resilience helped us to easily overcome these.

Rock and Water – Group F

This morning, our instructor, Poppy, took us to Borth-y-Gest, a beach close to Porthmadog. There we did some rock scrambling and had our lunch by the Irish sea and river estuary. We then returned back to Dol-y-Moch to do some kayaking.
