The children had a fantastic first day in Year 3. They enjoyed seeing their friends again, getting to know their new teacher and exploring the story ‘Leaf’ by Sandra Dieckmann which features a very lost polar bear on his quest to return home.
The children discussed the text well and thought maturely about how the animals in the forest treated the stranger. They explored both the illustrations and vocabulary choices, made well thought out predictions and sequenced the story with their peers. They then went on to write their own versions of the text!
During the afternoon, they experimented with watercolours and learnt all about colour theory as part of their new mini-project ‘Compare and Contrast’, creating their own colour wheel.
