This week Nursery have made a wonderful start to our new project ‘Once Upon a Time’.
We listened to ‘The Gingerbread Man’ and loved joining in with the refrain, ‘Run, run as fast as you can, you can’t catch me, I’m the gingerbread man’! They also did some wonderful colouring and we played some gingerbread men counting games.
We talked about the different characters found in fairy tales and decided if they were ‘goodies’ or ‘baddies’!
The children were introduced to ‘Little Red Riding Hood’ and we changed our playhouse into Grandma’s cottage, where the children could act out the story.
Using the Little Wandle phonics scheme the children learned the sound ‘a’ and played lots of of games to develop their phonemic awareness and oral blending.
In ‘Rhyme Time’, we explored the nursery rhyme ‘Ring-a-ring-a-roses’. We sang it fast, slow, loud and quiet! We thought about rhyming words and clapped and tapped out the number of syllables.
Other activities have included:
‘Odd Socks Day’, where we put on odd socks and thought about being a kind friend. The children designed some odd socks of their own and we played a matching sock game too!
Threading beads onto pipe cleaners in order to develop dexterity.
Raising money for for ‘Children in Need’ by having a Cake Sale, making Pudsey Bear toast and dressing up.
Rehearsing for our Christmas concert and learning new songs.
