This week in Nursery we have been thinking about bedtime routines and the importance of a good night’s sleep.
The children listened to the story ‘Peace at Last’ by Jill Murphy and joined in with making all the different noises that kept Mr Bear awake. They then played a game where they had to listen carefully to some noises and guess what they were!
We discussed the different jobs that people do and how some people need to work at night to help us and keep us safe. They enjoyed dressing up as nurses, doctors, police officers and fire fighters!
We talked about the importance of brushing our teeth. The children had great fun brushing the large set of teeth with the huge toothbrush. They also learned a new song called ‘Brush, Brush, Brush your Teeth’. We then sorted healthy and sugary foods on the flip chart.
In PSHE we watched 1 Decision where ‘Orange Brushes her Teeth’ and ‘Red Visits the Dentist. We also watched ‘Yellow’s Bedtime’.
In Maths the children compared sizes and chose the best bed for the different sized teddies.
We talked about the children having a favourite teddy which they cuddle up to at night. They explored socks stuffed with different materials and had to guess what might be inside. Some were soft and squidgy; others were hard and lumpy!
Using the Little Wandle phonics scheme the children learned the sound ‘g’ and played lots of games to develop their phonemic awareness and oral blending.
In ‘Rhyme Time’ the children sang ‘Hey Diddle Diddle, the Cat and the Fiddle’ in different ways such as loud, in a whisper, fast and slow. They also thought about syllables and clapped them, rhyming words and words that began with the same sound.
Other activities included:
PE using the large apparatus.
Learning a new exercise dance called ‘Wake up!’
Building models using the construction toys.
Mark making with felt tips and colouring. Brushing pictures of dirty teeth with toothbrushes.
Sharing books.
Compare Bears.
