This week in Nursery the focus has been on minibeasts. The children loved exploring the outdoor area hunting for all kinds of creatures!
The children have enjoyed dressing up as minibeasts and looking at the pretend minibeasts with the magnifying glasses.
In Maths the children have investigated the spots on ladybirds and have discovered that numbers can be arranged in different ways but the amount stays the same. They have further explored this with ladybird dominoes.
Using the Little Wandle phonics scheme the children learned the sound ‘y’ and played lots of games to develop their phonemic awareness and oral blending. We also did ‘Rhyme Time’ where the children sang ‘Incy Wincy Spider’ in different ways such as loud, in a whisper, fast and slow. They also thought about syllables and clapped them, rhyming words and words that began with the same sound.
We have had lots of stories about different kinds of minibeasts and have learned some new songs too; ‘Wiggly Woo’ and ‘Ladybird, Ladybird, Fly Away Home’. The children loved playing along with the percussion instruments!
Other activities have included:
Minibeast colouring and pencil control activities.
Continuing with parachute games in PE. We are getting so good at playing ‘Cat and Mouse’ and ‘Mushroom’!
Looking after the Sunflower seeds we have planted and the Marigold and Sweet Pea seedlings.
Construction, building towers and houses for the minibeasts to live in.
Learning a new exercise dance called ‘Caterpillar Dance’!
