This week in Nursery we have continued to think about Harvest, fruit, vegetables and especially pumpkins!
The children enjoyed sorting fruit and vegetables on a flip chart game. We discussed our favourite fruit and vegetables and thought about healthy eating. The children have continued to compare fruit and vegetables, thinking about how they look, feel and smell and which fruit and vegetables are their favourites.
Reverend Jon Taylor came to do a special assembly about Harvest and we discussed how farmers harvest their crops at this time of year and how people all over the world celebrate harvest to say thank you for the food we have to eat.
The role play changed into Wizardy Woo’s kitchen and the children have had fun dressing up and making frog soup and bat cake!
We looked at some carved pumpkins and the children enjoyed creating their own pumpkin face collages using different 2D shapes. They explored other smaller pumpkins and we talked about the differences in size, weight, shape and colour. The children used the balance scales to weigh the pumpkins and other fruit and vegetables and we talked about ‘lighter’ and ‘heavier’.
In Rhyme Time, (Little Wandle Phonics Scheme), the children have explored the nursery rhyme ‘1, 2 Buckle my Shoe’, thinking about rhyming words, syllables and singing it fast, slow, loud and quiet.
