This week we have been focusing on ‘The Three Little Pigs’ and ‘The Three Billy Goats Gruff’.
The children have listened to different versions of the stories and have enjoyed joining in with the refrains;
‘Little pig, little pig, let me come in! Not by the hair on my chinny chin, chin! Then I’ll huff and I’ll puff and I’ll blow your house in!’ and
‘Who’s that trip trapping over my bridge?’
They have used a variety of different construction toys to build fantastic houses strong enough so that the Big, Bad Wolf cannot blow them down. They have created some brilliant bridges for the Three Billy Goats Gruff to cross over to the meadow safely! The children also helped to create a den outside for the Three Little Pigs to live in!
In Maths the children have learned about the number 3. We watched ‘Numberblocks’ focusing on 3, made 3 in different ways using our fingers and played a subitising game, where we had to say how many objects there were without counting!
Using the Little Wandle phonics scheme the children learned the sound ‘p’ and played lots of games to develop their phonemic awareness and oral blending. We built a word wall, where the children had to listen carefully and put the pictures together that began with the same sound!
Other activities have included looking at different fairy tale buildings and discussing who may live there.
Practising our pencil control using some Little Pig cards and whiteboard pens and colouring pictures of the ‘Three Little Pigs’ and the ‘Billy Goats Gruff’.
Working with playdough to retell the story of ‘The Three Little Pigs’.
Singing the song’ There was a princess long ago’ and learning some Makaton signs to go with it.
We have also continued to practise our Christmas Concert and the children have done a dress rehearsal!
