This week in Nursery the children have continued to explore dinosaurs with a focus on fact finding. Did you know that a T. Rex’s tooth was the size of a ruler and that the brachiosaurus stride was 3 metres long? Not all dinosaurs were big and that the Compsognathus was only the size of a chicken! Some dinosaurs even had feathers!
In Maths the children have continued with their counting. We have been counting dinosaur bones and making sure we count accurately, remembering to point to each object one at a time. We also talked about the size of the bones we found. Some were long and some were short!
We measured a Brachiosaurus stride of 3 metres and the children counted how many steps they would need to take for one of the Brachiosaurs’ steps.
The children have listened to the story ‘Ten Little Dinosaurs’ by Mike Brownlow and have counted the dinosaurs and also thought about the rhyming words: for example ‘roar’ and ‘four’, ‘line’ and ‘nine’.
Using the Little Wandle phonics scheme the children learned the sound ’h’ and played lots of games to develop their phonemic awareness and oral blending.
