This week in Nursery we began our mini project, ‘Puddles and Rainbows’.
The children listened to the story ‘The Colour Monster’ by Anna Llenas and we discussed the colours and how they made the children feel. We thought about when the colour monster was green, and we listened to some calming music. We then watched ‘Little Daydreamers’ on CBeebies.
The children enjoyed investigating different materials. We looked at the clothing for the dolls and decided that the waterproof jacket would be best for a rainy day. We then sprayed a doll with water to see if our prediction was correct! It was! The doll was dry!
Using the Little Wandle phonics scheme the children learned the sound ‘f’ and played lots of games to develop their phonemic awareness and oral blending.
The children enjoyed ‘Rhyme Time’ and they sang ‘Baa, Baa Black Sheep’ in different ways such as loud, in a whisper, fast and slow. They also thought about syllables and clapped them, rhyming words and words that began with the same sound. We played ‘Rainbow Rhymes’. The children had to match the rhyming pictures to the correct rhyming colour word, for example, red, ted, bread or pink, sink, drink.
In Maths the children played a game where they chose a card and then had to pick the correct number of objects in the right colour, matching the objects to the dots. This was good for practising one to one correspondence.
In PE the children enjoyed using the streamers to dance along to the song ‘Somewhere over the Rainbow’. They made large rainbow shapes, circles and spirals in the air to the music.
Other activities have included;
