This week in Year 3, we had a fantastic opportunity to learn about VE Day, a significant event in British history. VE Day, or Victory in Europe Day, marks the day when the Allies accepted the unconditional surrender of Nazi Germany in 1945, signalling the end of World War II in Europe.
To deepen our understanding, we participated in a live lesson presented by the knowledgeable Historian, Mr Dilly. He shared a wealth of important facts about the war, helping us grasp the sacrifices made by many individuals during this challenging time. Mr Dilly explained how VE Day was not only a day of celebration but also an opportunity to remember those who fought bravely for our freedom.
We discovered how people took to the streets to celebrate with street parties, singing, and dancing, expressing their relief and joy at the end of the war. Mr Dilly emphasised that it is vital to celebrate and remember VE Day today, as it serves as a reminder of the importance of peace and unity in our world.
Reflecting on this lesson, we appreciate the value of learning about our past and the significance of celebrating such important events in history.
