Year 3’s Roman Adventure at Baginton Fort

Today, Year 3 step back in time as they visit the Roman Lunt Fort in Baginton – and what a day it is turning out to be! On the warmest day of the year so far in Coventry, our pupils are embracing the sunshine and the spirit of ancient Rome with enthusiasm and energy.

The day begins with a guided walk through the reconstructed Roman fort. Pupils explore the barracks, towers, and granary, discovering how Roman soldiers once lived, trained, and protected their stronghold nearly two thousand years ago.

The highlight of the day takes place in the fort’s impressive arena, where the children prepare for battle just like Roman legionaries. Armed with wooden swords and shields, they practise sword-fighting stances, perfect their defensive techniques, and engage in exciting training drills. With determination and teamwork, they learn how to stand strong in formation, raise their shields together, and respond to commands – even shouting in Latin!

Our young warriors are showing fantastic focus, skill, and resilience, especially in the heat. With plenty of water breaks and sunhats in place, they continue to enjoy every moment of this hands-on historical adventure.

It’s a day full of learning, laughter, and unforgettable experiences. A huge thank you to the team at Lunt Roman Fort for providing such an immersive and educational visit. Year 3 are sure to return to school full of stories – and maybe even ready to join the Roman army!
