This year’s British Science Week at EGPS was a resounding success, centred around the theme ‘Change and Adapt’. Our students engaged in a myriad of live lessons, scientific investigations, and activities designed to explore these important concepts.
In Year 1, children participated in a live lesson focused on farming, followed by an exploration of the school grounds, assessing how hedgerows vary and evolve throughout the seasons.

Year 2 students delved into the adaptations of animals and plants, specifically examining moths and their camouflage techniques to evade predators.

Year 3 focused on the pressing issue of rubbish and pollution, investigating the effects of various materials on water through an engaging experiment with paper towels, tissue, and wet wipes, simulating the flushing of a toilet.ย

Meanwhile, Year 4 celebrated Science Week by ingeniously designing homes for ice cubes, with the aim of slowing down their melting process.

Year 5 enjoyed two live lessons, with the latter led by TechSheCan, highlighting the role of artificial intelligence in sustainability. Students were introduced to diverse STEM careers that harness this emerging technology to effect positive change.

Lastly, Year 6 built on Year 2’s learning by creating their own animals using iPads, culminating in a written reflection on how their creations adapted to their environments.

Overall, this year’s Science Week provided our pupils with invaluable learning experiences, fostering curiosity and a deeper understanding of the world around them.
