This week we have all been busy builders! We’ve helped test materials for the three little pigs who had their houses blown down by the big bad wolf. After reading the story of The Three Billy Goats Gruff we also tested materials for a bridge, children worked together to decide which material was the strongest. During provision children have been building walls out of bricks and shaving foam and being creative with some big cardboard boxes. We’ve also had lots of little architects who have designed their own building and then created their design in the junk modelling area. In phonics the sounds we’ve learnt this week are h, b, f and l. Children have also been writing words this week: dog, ten, red, mum and kid. Our tricky word this week is the. In Maths we’ve been comparing quantities. We’ve compared objects in two groups and have used the phrases more than and fewer than to describe what we can see. We’ve also explored simple patterns together. On Friday we’ve learnt about Halloween and discussed what the children are dressing up. Children loved exploring our pumpkin potion station, developing their scissor skills with our pumpkin cutting activity and developing their fine motor skills on our pumpkin tapping station.
