Freshen up the dome

Our skills academy children in Forest Schools showed excellent teamwork this week in tidying the dome and getting it ready for the winter months. Keeping on top of this is crucial in allowing us to continue a good plant turnover.

Whittling Wands

In Skills Academy, the children have been safely using peelers to carve out their own wands. They then chose to decorate them with either; colours or by carving intricate designs into the handles.

Forest School – Skills Academy, Autumn 2

A new group for Forest School this half term. We split into opposing tribes and tried to create the most sturdy structure using the large branches. Then we lined up against the enemies structure and tried to knock them down (safely) using smaller sticks as missiles. We had lots of fun and both towers survived!

Continents and Capital Cities

Our year 5 children have been becoming experts on the different continents and learning everything there is to know about one capital city within their continent. Lots of discussion and teamwork to help them retain all that knowledge to share with the other groups.

Twirly Sweet Potatoes + Shelters

The children in Year 6, harvested the oddly shaped sweet potatoes (one of our final vegetables to harvest for the season). We then had a go at building some shelters using our building kits and anything else we could find in the area.

Finishing the Pencil Holders!

Our forest school group got creative and put the finishing touches to their pencil holders this week. They used paints and pens to decorate them ready for their tables. Some final holes were drilled and now they are good to be put to use.

Continuing with our pencil holders

Our Year 6 Forest School group continue to work on their pencil holders in the wet and windy weather. They used two new pieces of kit; billhook blade (to shave off the bark) and the bit and brace (to bore holes into their logs). They showed great responsibility when using these and their creations are now taking shape.
