Good morning!

Hard to believe how quickly the past few days have flown by. Our morning started, as usual, with our chores, breakfast, sandwich making, room inspections and briefing. Room inspection scores have improved from day to day. Some rooms even got the maximum of 5 stars. Finally!

Group A & B – Independent Walk
For the first half of the day, groups A and B joined forces to tackle some orienteering activities and an independent walk. For orienteering, up to 30 different markers are located around the grounds of the centre. Children split up into pairs and had to locate these using only maps. They did amazingly well at this.
Time for some trekking! After a safety briefing from Jonny, children were taken by mini-bus to a nearby spot from which they had to find their way back to the centre. This time, instead of a map, the children had a series of photos which they had to use to navigate their way back.

Group A – Beach Scramble
After lunch, children in groups A & B were taken to Borth-y-Gest, a beach / estuary near Porthmadog. Here, Group A tried scrambling and climbing various rock formations. It was also great fun sliding and trying to run on the slippery, smooth rocks. As the tide was out, there were lots of crabs, interesting seaweed and jelly fish to be found. We even saw an osprey swoop down and catch a large fish!

Group B – Beach Scrambling
After our amazing sandwiches, which we prepared earlier, we were taken by mini-bus to Borth-y-Gest, a beach / estuary near Porthmadog. Here, we scrambled and climbed different rocks. Some were very sharp and rough. Others were smooth and slippery. Either way, it was great fun sliding and trying to run on the slippery, smooth rocks. As the tide was out, we saw crabs, interesting seaweed and jelly fish.

Group C – Boats and Gorge
We had an excellent day on the water. It started off at the slimy pond testing out our rope climbing skills, followed by a morning on the kayak lake. Miraculously nobody fell in despite their best efforts! After lunch at the centre we kitted ourselves up again and headed out to the gorge. The children showed amazing resilience and bravery to scramble up a fast moving stream, up slippery rocks and jump from a high rock back into the freezing water. A five star day!

Group D – Gorge and Boats
Group D had a fantastic day. First we geared up and headed to the gorge. The children showed outstanding resilience and bravery as they scrambled up a fast‑moving stream, tackled slippery rocks, and leapt from a high ledge into freezing water.
After lunch, we headed to the kayak lake. With guidance from our instructor, we played some games where we tested our skills with a paddle. Nobody thought that they had got wet enough today so we ended the day with the Dol-y-moch dive! A great day was had by all!

Evening Campfire and Fancy Dress Supper
This evening we had our supper outside around a warm fire. We had hot chocolate or squash. Then it was time for the EGPS ‘Talent’ show to get underway.
