Plas Dol-y-Moch 2026 – Day 3

Good morning!

Children are now beginning to show signs of settling! Not as many excited bunnies at 6:30am today! They are also getting used to morning routines.

After breakfast, it was time to make lunch. Sandwich making skills are definitely improving.

Once lunches were made up, it was time for room inspections and some more jobs. The rooms are definitely also getting better.

Group A – Boats & Gorge

Group A started off the day with some kayaking! A quick hike up the slopes from the centre led us to a nearby lake. This was followed by lots of fun paddling and getting wet. On the way, we also had fun climbing different rope courses. After Kayaking, we had lunch and then it was straight onto an exciting gorge walk. Here we got very, very wet!

Group B – Gorge & Boats

Group B started off the day with a short minibus ride to a nearby gorge. Crossing the busy road was perhaps the hardest part! We had lots of fun trekking through very slippery rocks and getting very wet. It was great sliding down various cascading waterfalls and quick moving water. We then had the opportunity to jump off the rocks towards the end of the walk. We went back to the centre to dry off and have a spot of lunch. Then it was off a short walk up the hills to a lake where we could do some kayaking.

Kayaking was lots of fun, and once again we got absolutely soaked! We then tried out some rope climbing on the way back to the centre.

Group C – Mountain Mine

As with the groups on the previous day, the mine chosen for us to explore today was about 30mins away by mini-bus. After a bit of a hike through the pine forest we came to the entrance of the mine. All of us were slightly nervous but after a few minutes we adjusted to the cold, wet and dark! Lunch in the pitch black was a first. We spent 3 hours exploring the mine, by boat, clipping into a guide line, and scrambling up what can only be described as a waterfall. A great adventurous day for all of us!

Group D – Mountain Mine

Our mine for the day was about half an hour away by mini‑bus, followed by a steady hike through the pine forest to reach the entrance. There was definitely a ripple of nerves as we stepped inside, but after a few minutes we all settled into the cold, the damp, and the darkness.

We spent several hours exploring underground — travelling by boat, clipping onto guide lines. It was challenging and brilliantly adventurous. Although we had a great day none of us decided a career in a mine would be much fun!
