Welly Walks!

Each Friday we have been putting on our wellies and going out to explore! We made binoculars and had fun looking through them, describing what we could see. We even made a nest for the birds!

What’s in the box?

In Nursery we played ‘What’s in the box?’ Inside the box there were different things hiding including marshmallows, small stones, baked beans and spaghetti. We took it in turns to feel what was inside. We had a go at describing what we could feel. Some of the words we thought of included, ‘sticky, mushy. squashy, hard, rough and slimy’. Some

Natural History Museum

We all had a wonderful time in London this week. The children thoroughly enjoyed visiting the photography exhibition and exploring the museum. Using the tube and walking through some of the busy streets of London, was a new experience for many of them but they were all extremely well behaved and a real credit to our school and their families.

Great Barrier Reef

We went into Hub 2 to use Google Expeditions on the new iPads. We went on a VR tour of the Great Barrier Reef and we also used AR to see coral and sharks up close. We thought about interesting vocabulary that we could use to describe what we saw and then used this to write a descriptive setting for

Who’s that trip trapping over my bridge!

Look at our brilliant bridges. Our challenge was to make a bridge strong enough to let the Billy Goats Gruff walk across. We then acted out the story using some lollipop stick puppets. We had great fun working with our partner.

Hide and Seek

We had fun playing Hide and Seek in our outdoor area. We thought of lots of different places to hide including behind a tree, inside the caterpillar, under the climbing frame and around the back of the shed. Mrs Lindsay counted to 20 and then went to look for everyone. We had lots of fun!

Roller coasters!

To begin our new ILP ‘Scream Machine’ this week, 5W created a simulated roller coaster in our classroom. Using on screen real footage of a roller coaster ride and a computer-generated simulation, we sat in our ‘cars’ and experienced falling, twisting and looping movements, thinking about the emotions, feelings and sensations involved. Just like the real thing!

5W Science (Life-cycles)

In our work on life-cycles, 5W have recently investigated the internal and external parts of an unfertilised chicken egg, like those that we buy in the shops. Although we were all familiar with a chicken egg, using torches and tweezers, we were able to look much closer than we have ever looked before and then separate each part. We then

Den Building as a tribe

This week, we teamed up with Mr Stevens and his Forest School group. We looked at a tribe who live in Indonesia. They build their huts above ground level to protect them from floods and dangerous animals. We then went outside and tried to build our own versions. We got very muddy, but we had a lot of fun!
